Malarie

Stories from Janes who have called the hotline in Texas. Names and identifying details have been changed.

*Malarie, 16 years old, called our hotline needing help. She was three weeks pregnant, homeless, and already had a one year-old son.

Her father was dead and her mother had abandoned her when she was young, leaving her in the care of a woman who was now in hospice, unable to leave her bed.

Malarie went to school, ran track and had a job at a restaurant, but still barely had enough money to feed herself and her child. Her partner had poked holes in the condom because he had a strain of a rare disease and felt it was his job to populate the world before he passed early.

During the bypass process, Malarie’s attorney found her a social worker who helped her find somewhere to live.
